Is It Silver?

The word "Sterling" is stamped on all American sterling silver made after the 1860's.
The English have the legal set of hallmarks. (see my previous blog with links to halmarking websites)
On silver plated items, the following initials are common identification marks:
EPNS - Electroplated Nickel Silver
EPBM - Electroplated Britannia Metal (this has a high lead content and should not be used for food)
EPC - Electroplated Copper
Other common terms for silver plated items; A1, Quadruple Plate, Brittania, German Silver, Silver On Copper, Sheffield, English Silver.
